In Mr. Schreckengast’s Science Class we are currently learning about the Nature of Science. The major concepts being taught are: Science Skills, Scientific Method, Standard Units of Measurement, and Graphing.
The pictures below were taken from the Drops of Water on a Penny Lab. Students first Identified the 5 steps of the Scientific Method for the Lab and labeled them. Then they conducted the lab, which was to answer: “Will the Heads or Tails side of a Penny hold more drops of water?”
The overall results from the classes were that Heads won: 41 to 35, with 8 lab partners having equal drops for both.
The students also used this lab to learn to write a conclusion for a Science Lab using the steps taught in class.

In Mrs. Elicker’s Social Studies classes, students were using geographic cartoons in order to identify the five themes of geography. As the students discussed the cartoons, they completed an analyzing perspectives graphic organizer that helped each person to explain their analysis of the cartoon. Working in groups of (4), the students were then able to broaden their opinions in order to develop a group perspective regarding the cartoon.
In Ms. Therrien’s Pre-Algebra class, we are writing rules for algebraic patterns and sequences. In Advanced Pre-Algebra, we are starting Chapter One: The Tools of Algebra. This chapter will include simplifying expressions and graphing on the coordinate plane.
In Academic Literacy, Mrs. Vasellas’ classes have started Unit 1: Key Ideas and Details in Informational Text. Students will be learning about central ideas and how to locate them.
