News from 7-N

English with Mrs. Ross and Mrs. Dansberry

Now that the PSSA testing for 7th grade is over, we are going to continue working with figurative language in English. Students will be analyzing examples of metaphors, similes, symbolism, allusion, and determining their deeper meaning. After we finish figurative language, we will look at how an author creates meaning in a text. In mid April, Miss Kohlbus will be joining our class to take the place of Mrs. Ross who will be out on maternity leave! Book Assignments for English are due on April 4th!

Mathematics with Mr. Dansberry & Mr. Josuweit

Now that PSSA testing is over, we are going to switch gears and talk about geometry.  The first concept that we will be discussing will be triangles, then more specifically right triangles.  We will discuss Pythagoras, his secret society, and how to find the missing side of a right triangle.  After triangles, we will talk about polygons, circles, and how to find the perimeter/circumference and area of them.  After the Post Test (due April 3rd), there will be no longer any Study Island assignments this year.

Math with Mr. Josuweit

The PSSA’s are now behind us for another year! With that said, we can now resume a normal schedule for the rest of the year. Students can expect homework 2-3 nights a week for the remainder of the school year. We spent time on Monday discussing some of the big changes with Class Dojo and the Wheel of Assessment. Be sure to ask your student about them! We will be focusing on percents, decimals, fractions, proportions, and interest for the next couple of weeks.

Science With Miss Taylor and Mr. Josuweit,

Woo! PSSA’s are over!  We are all looking forward to having a normal schedule for the rest of the school year.  In science class, we are starting our big unit on waves, light, and sound.  We will be learning a lot of information in this unit, which will probably take us the entire month of April to get through! Looking forward to a great spring!!!

Social Studies with Mr. Whiteford and Mrs. Dansberry

As we continue with our unit about the colonies, students have finished discussing Jamestown and Plymouth.  Right now, we are in the midst of our lessons about the New England colonies.  Our big focus with the New England is the role that religion played in those colonies.  This will include an activity about the Salem witch trial hysteria.  Following New England, we will move south into the Middle and Southern colonies.  We will finish the year with a unit about Pennsylvania beginning in May.
