News from 7N

English with Ms. Wachter and Mrs. Dansberry

Students are finishing Informative Essays in the computer lab for their final drafts. They are excited to be creating PowerPoint Presentations on the essay topic and presenting them in class on November 4th and 5th. They are ready to move onto our next unit: Word Morphology!

(Period 3 working hard on their PowerPoint Presentations)

Math with Mr. Josuweit

We started working with integers (adding and subtracting) last week and we will continue working with them this week (multiplying and dividing). The students will then be learning more about graphing, playing bingo with integers, and doing some fun hands on activities.

Social Studies with Mr. Whiteford and Mrs. Dansberry

We are working our way through our Geography unit, having just finished with Parts of a Map and Map Skills.  Next, we will be starting Landforms and finishing Geography with Culture.  Students and parents can look forward to a class project in which students will be doing research and comparing the cultures of the United States and another country.  After Thanksgiving, we will be moving on to Explorers!

English with Mrs. Dansberry
We will be doing a play for our “Reader Theater”  to practice fluency this week.  We will also be starting our multi-paragraph essay unit.  The students have been working on paragraphs with a topic sentence, three supporting details and a conclusion sentence.

Math with Mr. Dansberry
I can't believe the first marking period is over already.  Time really flies when you are having fun!  At this point in time, your child should be able to tell you how to add, subtract, multiply, and divide integers.  After a brief couple of days talking about graphing in the four quadrants, we are going to enter the happiest place of all, the wonderful world of fractions!  I know that fraction is a four letter word in some people's mind, but we are going to dust off the kids' previous knowledge, fill in the gaps, and take them a step further.  If you want to know what your child's homework assignments are, check Edline, follow me on Twitter (@MrDansberry7N) or Instagram (MrDansberry7N), and/or contact me via email (dansberrym@rlasd.net) to learn more about receiving text messages or emails with my assignments.

Science with Miss Taylor
In Miss Taylor's science class, students recently completed their Nature of Science unit, which reviewed concepts from elementary school, such as graphing, scientific method, and measurement.  From here on out, the course will be more challenging and faster-paced.  Our first branch of science we cover is chemistry, so students are currently learning about the parts of an atom, atomic theorists, periodic table, and elements!

Health with Mrs. Gillis
In health class we have begun discussions and activities that will help us understand what bullying is, it’s effects on our health triangle and what we can do if we, or someone we know is being bullied.
