Social Studies – Mr. Conrad

Students in Mr. Conrad’s Social Studies classes recently completed their PowerPoint presentations on European explorers.  The students finished their creative assessments, in which they got to choose from a variety of options, on how they wanted to explain their knowledge of European nation’s competition for power.  Students continue to examine the Age of Exploration and colonization’s impact on Native Americans and slavery.  Soon, we will examine the colonization of America and focus our attention on the thirteen English colonies.

Mrs. McGurk’s English Class

In Mrs. McGurk’s English class, we are learning about the literary elements.  Students enjoyed reading the memoir “Dirk the Protector” by Gary Paulsen to analyze character.

To investigate setting and practice their skills at identifying setting, students watched book trailers for several books and identified the location and time period of each book based on clues in the trailer and on the book itself (the blurb, pictures, skimming through the text, etc.).  To view the trailers students watched, you can visit this link.

7O Science – Mr. Bellenbaum

The students are finishing up with the properties of matter unit by doing some chemistry.  We play with milk and dishwashing detergent, which resulted in some great artwork.  We mixed syrup, dishwashing, detergent, oil, water, and rubbing alcohol to see how density works.  Most recently we had fun making a plastic lunch bag explode using only vinegar, and baking soda.  For more fun chemistry ideas please visit the following webpage
