School Gate Guardian

The Red Lion Area School District is implementing the School Gate Guardian Visitor Management System in all eleven buildings in the district.  There are three goals in this initiative including increasing the security in all of the district’s buildings, increasing the safety in all of the district’s buildings, and improving the communication and rapport with the community.  To accomplish these goals through the use of the School Gate Guardian Visitor Management System, several protocols will be followed that coincide with the features of the system.

First, when a visitor enters any of the district’s eleven buildings, he/she will be asked to scan his/her ID.  The system will scan the national databases and determine if there is any criminal history or if the person is a registered sex offender.  If this information does not exist, the visitor will be given a time expiring ID and allowed to proceed into the building.  If there is criminal history or the person is a registered sex offender, the mass alert feature will be used to notify and/or summon key district personnel.  The mass alert feature will also be used if there is a visitor in a building who is causing a disturbance.

Next, visitors who enter a building and wish to pick up a student will follow the same steps outlined above.  In addition, the visitor will also be compared to an unwanted registry of people who are not allowed in the building.  The registry will include those with restraining orders, limited visitation rights, protection from abuse orders, and/or known threats in the community.  Lastly, the visitor will be accessed using the approved pick-up list information contained in the system to determine if he/she may take the student.

Finally, those visitors who enter district buildings to volunteer their time will be provided with a log of time spent helping/working.  This will be used as part of the positive behavior initiatives.  Additionally, those visitors who enter a building on a frequent basis, such as vendors or parents who pick up their children on a regular basis, will be issued frequent visitor key tags.  These bar-coded key tags will quickly provide all the necessary information for verification and greatly streamline the school check-in process.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we look to have this implemented in early Spring 2014.  Please be prepared to bring ID with you when you enter any of the buildings in order to register your information in this database.
