Team 7-L Math with Mr. Flay

The first week and a half of school have been spent getting to know each other and building positive relationships!  This week is the turning point, as we have received textbooks (see picture) and will spend sometime reviewing previously learned skills before starting Chapter 1!

Team 7-L Academic Lit. with Mrs. Vasellas

In Academic Literacy, Mrs. Vasellas' classes will be launching Unit 1: The Ideas and Details in Informational Text.

Team 7-L Science with Mr. Dellinger

Our first week was spent building a classroom community and developing relationships! In the next 2 weeks we will have 2 labs. Next week our lab will deal with the surface tension of water.

As an exciting way to end the week we did an activity that emphasized science skills. Students predicted if specific items would sink or float in an aquarium. They also reviewed labs from the previous year and used observation skills to determine the type of plants Mr. Dellinger has in his room as well as several other lab stations .

Team 7-L English with Miss Maxwell
In English, we are beginning our unit on informative writing.  We will spend a lot of time talking about how to improve our writing, especially our sentences and punctuation.  When we begin essay writing, students will have a choice between writing about their dream vacation, someone they admire, or their dream job.  I'm looking forward to reading some great essays!

Team 7-L Social Studies with Mr. Arigo
Mr. Arigo's classes will be exploring with Google Earth.  Students will be searching and learning about the Themes of Geography in our world.

Team 7-L Health with Mr. Martin

Right now in health class, students have been discussing how health has changed over the past 100 years and how different things are impacting student’s health today more than in previous generations.  We are also talking about how in health class this year we will be discussing a variety of topics in physical, mental, emotional, and social health.

Students were also given their first Critical Reading assignment for the year, which is a major grade and has a significant impact on each student’s overall grade in this class.  Please discuss this assignment with your child or refer to the information listed on the Ed-line page for a more detailed explanation of the assignment.
